Background

Autonomous vehicles are new technologies that have the potential to change people's lifestyles, for more in particular, to change the transport system that drives the everyday society. With the creation of autonomous vehicles, it is expected that future transport networks can be more secure.

Autonomous vehicles are vehicles that can operate safely and effectively without the need to be controlled by humans. This vehicle consists of a collection of systems that are work together to enable the vehicle to cross its environment. One of the most important systems is the sensor. Examples :

·        Global Positioning System : These sensors are placed around the tires of the vehicle. How it works is detecting direction of motion ban, would have been in accordance with the instructions given, i.e. destinations that have been determining based on a map the direction established by the computer.

·        Video camera : This tool is the eye of the vehicle, at where its main function is to detect moving objects such as pedestrians or cyclists

·        LIDAR : This Sensor located on the roof of a car that does the movement 360 degree rotation during car driving automatically. How this sensor works is do a circular motion to get visualization of the environment inside 200 foot radius. From the results of the visualization, the computer in the car will be processing the data obtained to generate a 3d map in real time against surrounding environment. From here the computer will control the direction of motion of the car with consideration of the results of the visualization earlier.

·        RADAR : Autonomous vehicle is using a central computer to process the data received by the sensor. By using different algorithms, the computer can determine which path must be taken. Then the central computer ordered the car to do appropriate action.

After I read some articles about autonomous cars, I think innovation of autonomous vehicles is needed in a more sophisticated era like now. You can imagine how many accidents happen caused by human mistakes such as drivers who are sleepy or not focused in driving and then there is a traffic accident because the car becomes losing control. There is a traffic light violation that may harm other drivers. Safety in driving should always be the number 1 thing that needs to be improved.

We can see from the way the car works by utilizing many sensors attached. Through these sensors the car becomes able to read traffic signs on the highway, then the car can itself run by obeying the signs. In addition, built-in sensors can also detect the presence of other objects located close to the car, then the brakes will be automatically activated to avoid a collision that will occur. If the car is off track, the sensor will know it and improve the direction of the road by applying counter steering. The camera in the car is also useful to help the driver detect the vehicle in the driver's blind spot and warn the driver. This car is also able to read the circumstances such as the presence of vehicles that slow the rate of cars we drive also slow down to create a safe distance. In addition, this car certainly helps the driver in the parking problem.

I think this autonomous car innovation is also very useful for people with limited ability to make it easier for them to performs activities. from things that autonomus cars can do, this car aims to prevent or reduce traffic accidents, reduce driving time, and reduce carbon emissions like a Toyota Prius used by google and is known as an environmentally friendly hybrid car.

Based on the background of the article that I take, it can be concluded that the development of technology is very helpful human in carrying out its activities. everything becomes very easy and efficient. such as the autonomous car we have discussed.
